Sediment filter cartridges can remove all particulate matter from water. They are ideal for pre-filters.
 
A filter cartridge's micron rating determines how effective the media is at removing contaminants from particles of any size. A filter rated 5 micron or marked "5 micron" may capture particles as small and as small as 5 micrometers.
